Core Value: Prayer
In it’s simplest form, prayer is communicating with God. It’s a relational connection that should resemble a dialogue more than a monologue. While praying from our own thoughts, emotions and experiences has value (see the Psalms or Book of Lamentations), for the purpose of public prayer ministry, we should seek to be Spirit-led in our prayer life. Spirit-led prayer can be defined as prayer based upon Truth, revealed by the Spirit. By the Holy Spirit we are able to discern what the heart of God is for a situation and declare His truth into it, often by faith and regardless of our experience.
As Christians, we are called to pray without ceasing (1 Thess. 5:13) while remaining dependent upon the Holy Spirit to pray effectively (Rom. 8:26). Following this call, Alabaster House of Worship is actively involved in Spirit-led Prayer Ministry on a regular basis.
We often take “prayer-walks” through our community. As we spend time on the streets, we’re praying and declaring what’s on God’s heart for the town. We’re interceding for salvations, blessing the businesses, and contending for breakthrough for the churches.
God regularly opens up opportunities for personal prayer ministry with individuals. Sometimes a person is in need of encouragement or a prophetic word. Others are contending for healing, either physical or emotional and need someone to pray a prayer of faith with them for their healing. Still others are in need of more freedom or deliverance from spiritual oppression. As we pray empowered by the Spirit, we regularly see God moving in all these situations.
Corporate prayer is important to the Body of Christ. We’ve partnered with Frontline Church’s House of Prayer, which meets daily Monday-Friday, where we lead a form of prayer referred to as Harp & Bowl (see Rev. 5:8). In these prayer sessions, we spend time singing and praying the Scriptures, declaring out God’s Word over the world around us. We also participate in inter-church prayer initiatives such as Sylvan Lake’s Forty Days of 24/7 Prayer.
